With Miss South Carolina Teen Rachel Wyatt crowned Saturday as Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2013; the new Miss South Carolina Teen is Sydney Sill, 16, of Duncan. Sill was first runner-up and recipient of a $5,000 scholarship at the 2012 Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant in July, where she competed as Miss Greater Greer Teen.

Sill, a junior honor student at James F. Byrnes High School, is class secretary and member of the National Junior Beta Club. She is the recipient of the Presidential volunteer service award and the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. Sill is promoting overcoming obstacles as a platform issue throughout her year of service and is an ambassador for the Shriner’s Hospital in Greenville.
Sydney is the daughter of Phillip and Gina Sill. She performed a tap dance to “Baby I’m a Star” at the state pageant in Columbia and was named preliminary and overall evening wear/on-stage question winner.
When asked why she wanted to be Miss South Carolina Teen, Sill responded, “As Miss South Carolina Teen, I want to be the inspiration in people’s lives that helps them to realize that they can achieve what may seem to be the impossible!”
Sill plans to share her personal story of faith, perseverance and determination as she travels the State of South Carolina. Four years ago, she had major spinal surgery to correct her condition of Scoliosis. “By believing in myself and my dreams, today, I am a stronger dancer and person.”
Wyatt is the second Miss South Carolina Teen to be crowned Miss America’s Outstanding Teen.
