Nia Sanchez, the reigning Miss Nevada USA 2014, was crowned Miss USA 2014 at the conclusion of the national pageant held on June 8th, 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She will represent the United States in the Miss Universe 2014 pageant later this year.

Nia Sanchez, 24, is a very successful model. She is also a fourth-degree black belt in the Korean martial art of taekwondo.
Nia is a beauty pageant veteran, having competed in local, state, and international pageants. At state level, she has placed in top twenty and second runner up over the last three years in California (Miss CA USA 2012 Top 20, Miss CA USA 2011 Top 20, Miss CA USA 2010 second runner-up). Internationally, she competed in two separate pageants in Ecuador, placing first runner up at Miss Tourismo Latino.
She was the first Miss Nevada USA contestant to win a Miss USA title and the fourth Hispanic (she is of German and Mexican descent) to win Miss USA after Laura Harring in 1985, Lynnette Cole in 2000, and Susie Castillo in 2003.
In the Q&A, Judge Rumer Willis said 19 percent of U.S. undergraduate women are victims of sexual assault and asked Sanchez why she thinks this is being swept under the rug and what should be done about it.
Sanchez’s answer was that “bringing awareness to the issue was important, as well as women taking it upon themselves to learn how to defend themselves”.
By winning Miss USA 2014, Nia Sanchez will represent the United States in the Miss Universe 2014 pageant later this year.
Nia Sanchez was born in Sacramento, California on February 16, 1990. When she was seven years old, she and her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Her parents divorced when she was six years old and during that transition she briefly lived in Shade Tree, a Las Vegas women’s shelter.
