Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen Crowned

Seventeen-year-old Alexandra Berube beat a field of extremely well-rounded young ladies to become Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen 2015 on March 29 at Keith Middle School in New Bedford.

It would seem that just making it to the Miss Mass OT competition involved a bit of luck. Officials said two of the fifteen qualified contestants sadly had to drop out of the pageant, including one who had slipped on some ice early that morning, breaking a bone in her foot in the process.

Berube wowed the crowd, and apparently the judges, with her Broadway vocal. She took home the overall talent award, as well as the interview award.

Amidst the post-pageant photos, hugs and well-wishes from other contestants and titleholders from across New England, the former Miss Boston’s Outstanding Teen was able to have her first press interview as her new title with BeautyPageantNews.com, and said she felt “crazy, like I am on cloud nine.”

Berube, showing some of the selflessness that likely helped her earn her title, said she credits the camaraderie with the other contestants as the driving force that helped her win her new crown.

“They are so supportive,” she said. “I never knew I could have a family so big.”

Visiting her entire state and making a serious run at the national title are on the agenda for Berube’s year as “Miss Mass OT.”

“I hope to travel to as much of Massachusetts as I can, and definitely win Miss America’s Outstanding Teen,” she said. “I’m going all the way!”

Berube is a junior at Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and resides with her family in Methuen. Her platform is The Importance of Arts in Education.

First runner-up was Cierra Vicente of New Bedford. Second runner-up was Tiffany Lu of Westford. Third runner-up was Olivia Marques of New Bedford and rounding out the top five was Meighread Dandeneau of Fairhaven.
