Megan Lyman Crowned Miss New Hampshire 2012

Megan Lyman was crowned Miss New Hampshire 2012 on Saturday evening, April 28, 2012 at the Stockbridge Theatre. She will represent New Hampshire in Miss America 2013 Pageant.

Third time’s a charm!!! Congratulations, Megan Lyman!!!!

Megan Lyman, of Gilford, was a beauty pageant veteran. She was Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen 2008. She was also crowned Miss Deerfield Fair 2010. This is the third consecutive time, she competed in Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program. With the tittle, Lyman took home a $13,000 scholarship.

A 21-year-old Junior at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, Megan is seeking a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Special Education. A graduate of Gilford High School, she plans to obtain a Master’s Degree in Special Education and hopes ultimately to become an administrator in that field. She is the Vice-President of T.E.A.C.H. at New England College, a member of College Convention, and a member of the New Hampshire Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Megan’s platform issue is “Make-A-Wish Foundation: Providing Children with Hope, Strength and Joy.” She is a member of the Make-A-Wish Speaker’s Bureau and also volunteers as fundraiser creator for the Foundation. Megan’s first experience with Make-A-Wish occurred when she, as a pre-teen, battled a life-threatening soft-tissue sarcoma at Boston Children’s Hospital. Make-A-Wish installed a dance floor in her Gilford Home to fulfill Megan’s wish. Megan had danced since she was three years old and dance has been a large part of her life ever since.

In 2008 Megan served as the 4th Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen. She is the Director of New England Tap Ensemble and has won numerous dance awards throughout New England. She also tap danced in Halftime, an Off-Broadway production.

During the academic year, Megan has been employed as a waitress at the Weirs Beach Lobster Pound Restaurant, and at Bravo Boutique in Concord. Her scholarship grants amount to more than $28,000 through the Miss New Hampshire and New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen state competitions, $1000 at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Program, and during her three years of participating in local competitions, another $4500 bringing her total thus far to $33,500.

Erica Millett was the first runner-up. The top five completed with Miss Rockingham County Megan Cooley, Miss Weirs Beach Julia Neveu, Miss Stratham Fair Sarah Mousseau.
