Margarita Pavlushena from Tatarstan was crowned Miss International Tourism 2013 during the finals of the pageant held at the Bansko ski resort in Bulgaria on March 23, 2013. The first runner-up was Yating Yang from Hong Kong and the second runner-up was Mila Romevska from Macedonia.

The purpose of the contest is to promote travel, cultural and historic landmarks in Bulgaria, as well as help the development of tourism initiatives.
According to the pageant’s website,
It was first held 20 years ago in Hollywood, USA… The main purpose of Miss Tourism is to promote hospitality of the host country, as well as friendship and cultural relations between nations, development and infrastructure of tourism. Another purpose is to attract guests and tourists from all over the world to the host country. In 2005 Bulgaria won for the first time the privilege to organize its own international pageant Miss International Tourism. “Insite group” is the company owner of the rights and licenses. “Insite group”, the Ministry of Tourism and other state institutions united for the cause of this international celebration of beauty on the 24th of September, 2005. Bulgaria organized the first edition of Miss International Tourism. Participants from 25 countries gathered in Sofia for the contest. Their program included official visits to the Ministry of Tourism, Bulgarian Parliament, interviews with the best Bulgarian newspapers and magazines. The 25 beauties went to the town of mineral waters – Devin. They were accommodated in the luxurious 5-star hotel and SPA-complex – Hotel “Orpheus”.(www.orpheus-spa.com)
