Asia Hickman Crowned Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen 2017

Asia Hickman was crowned Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen 2017 at the conclusion of the state pageant held on March 18th, 2017. She will now represent New York at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2018 pageant.

Asia Hickman wins Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen 2017 and will compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2018 pageant

At the time of her crowning, Asia Hickman is the Brooklyn’s Outstanding Teen 2017.

According to her website, Asia was born in Ansbach, Germany into a military family, her dad a government employee and mother an officer in the United States Army. Asia has lived overseas the majority of her life, living a good portion in South, Korea.

A talented classically trained musician, Asia’s interest in music came at the age of six, where she would take up her first violin lesson. Her interest in piano came later and at age seven Asia began taking formal lessons on both piano and violin. It wasn’t until her acceptance to the Kaufman Special Music School in NYC in 2015 that she began learning to play the saxophone. At the age of eight, Asia began performing in concerts and piano competitions throughout South Korea winning numerous awards and being featured on Armed Forces Network radio and television broadcasts station. She also won 1st prize in the 2014 Seoul’s National Piano Competition, the 2014 Pyeongteak Friendship Music Competition, the 2013 Songtan Friendship Music Competition and overall and double winner for the EDU 2012 Piano competition.

In 2015, Asia won the Third Prize Award at Vivo International Music Competition, held in New York City. She performed in the Winners Showcase Concert at New York’s prestigious Merkin Concert Hall in January 2016.

Asia also placed third overall at the Crescendo International Music Competition. Asia has won an honorable mention for the American Protégé Piano and strings competition and has performed at the world renowned Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Asia has graced the stage of the world’s famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York and has won multiple times as a “stars of tomorrow” child star winner, which led to her ultimately winning and being named the 2016 Child Star winner. Despite Asia’s busy schedule of at home practice and music lessons both in school and after school as well as excelling in her studies, she also volunteers to serve the community through hard work and her talent. She performs often for senior citizens and veterans homes, as well as having played at many events such as the women’s history month celebrations, Endow Women Conference, change of command ceremonies, orphanages and weddings just to name a few.

In Asia’s spare time she enjoys competing in pageants and is currently Miss Brooklyn’s Outstanding Teen. She also loves participating in 5k runs, singing, art and fashion. Asia attends the Manhattan School of Music-Pre College division as a piano major. Her dream is to one day become a concert pianist. Asia is a recipient of multiple president’s volunteer service awards.
